#1 Self Reflection
“With Megan’s story in mind and Konnikova’s examples, social media has allowed humans to be hateful and cruel without interacting in person. This makes it much easier for people to bully online and in Megan’s case spread hate.” I believe that my thesis statement is well worded. I refer to both texts and make a clear argument which can be argued for or against. It is a very long sentence but it sounds good and worked well in my paper.
I was reminded during my writing process of several different things from school. I remembered that the most important part of writing a paper is not to rush it. I have to space everything out so I can turn it in after several long intervals of working on it. I learned more about the step by step aspects of a paper from the different ideas and feelings a reader should get from an opening paragraph or closing line. I also learned that other arguments, although they might be going directly against your point, make for good launching pads for more of your own ideas and even a counter argument.
During my revisions I found most of my time being spent looking for more details in the texts themselves. I needed to extend the length of my paper and elaborate on the ideas that I already had written down. Leah, my classmate made things very clear to me and pointed out a very specific paragraph that I managed to double in length thanks to her. I also spent time looking for areas which could use clarification. I worked on my first body paragraph for a good thirty minutes of revision after just having written it.
For paper 2 my main goal will be to again focus on having a schedule for getting my paper done so I can hold myself accountable for my progress. I also want to work on my wording so my paper sounds more professional and eloquent. I struggle with formality and it can affect my writing.
