Serhan and Chen both show stories of how hatred can control our lives, from communities to countries. In Megan’s story, her grandfather taught Megan and his disciples to hate people that were different even if they were from the same race. If they didn’t follow in the teachings of Megan’s grandfather they were sinning and bound to go to hell. He mainly targeted gay men and anyone that supported Barrack Obama’s America. He believed that America was becoming too left-wing and had allowed too many sins to be forgiven. He used events that caused fear such as 9/11 to get attention and make his church known. The church gained popularity by being hateful, Serhan showed that fear leads to hate through her quote “Thailand’s public health minister yesterday appeared to lash out at white who he said were dirty and spreading the virus.” This quote is a good example of how people who would normally have no hate towards another person can express a new opinion because of a new fear.
