Learning Outcome 3

Learning Outcome 3

As a younger man, I always had my ups and downs when it came to enjoying what I read. Sometimes I just didn’t feel like it and sometimes I didn’t like what I was reading. I was picky. Once I became 15 or 16 I began to see why reading was so nice. It was quiet and calm, when I read I could feel my heart rate increase and decrease with the plot of the story.  If you enjoy what…

Serhan and Chen

Serhan and Chen

Serhan and Chen both show stories of how hatred can control our lives, from communities to countries. In Megan’s story, her grandfather taught Megan and his disciples to hate people that were different even if they were from the same race. If they didn’t follow in the teachings of Megan’s grandfather they were sinning and bound to go to hell. He mainly targeted gay men and anyone that supported Barrack Obama’s America. He believed that America was becoming too left-wing…

I also have learned to question the author attempting to bring deeper meaning to the text. In Cadogan’s story of his adolescent and early adult years, personal connection brought light to many of the problems that African American people face. Police brutality was at the forefront of his story….

2nd Essay Reflection

2nd Essay Reflection

The Major strength of my essay was the connections I made between the texts. I feel that I expressed DFW’s ideas well and connected them to the arguments of Paul Bloom. I also thought my interpretation of how to better take both of these authors’ recommendations to heart, or my connection between the texts as I said earlier was very strong. I allowed my reader to understand that life can be dull at times but asking a question about someone…

Cadogan Reading Response

Cadogan Reading Response

As Cadogan walks each city he visits he finds different challenges with each location. Kingston had the highest crime rates by far, it was radically politically divided and many strangers feared visiting the area. One thing that was different from the American cities was that they predominantly had a black population. Police in Kingston saw Cadogan just the same as every other person. In Lousiana, he faced the challenges of racism, systemically and publicly. People on the streets avoided him…
